Travel Tip – Accessory Math

Ever wonder what the right mix of accessories ever is?

It’s a good question. And while it changes from person to person, this rule is a golden one when packing is concerned.

For any given trip, you’ll never need more than:
3 pairs of shoes
2 handbags
1 scarf
1 pair of sunglasses

I’ve talked about my rules for shoes and bags in the past, but the S&S is a new one.

On scarves – they are a stylish traveler’s BEST FRIEND. They can double as a blanket on cold flights (the ones provided in economy class are disgusting), they can double as a sarong or a turban, and they inject immediate style in the most basic of outfits. My favorite are from Julie Vos – soft, warm, and the most gorgeous prints.

Basically, always pack one. The weight and style may differ by taste and weather, but you can never go wrong by packing one.

‘Always pack one’ also rings true for sunglasses. There are few things worse than pulling out of an unfamiliar airport’s rental car lot, only to have the sun beam STRAIGHT into your eyes.

Don’t torture yourself. Always bring along a pair of sunglasses, regardless of the trip. I tend to leave my expensive ones at home and bring along a durable, inexpensive pair (Sole Society has some excellent ones).

And always pack them in a case. No one needs to deal with broken sunglasses on top of flight delays, terrible food, and traffic. Travel can be the worst. You can prepare yourself with style.
