This Week

It’s a busy one, around these parts. Between a particularly hectic week on the work front, my evenings have been filled with dinners and hanging out with a visiting friend from Seattle. It’s wonderful, don’t get me wrong. But I’m craving a quiet evening, filled with movies (or bad reality television), snack foods for dinner, and an early bedtime.

In short, I’ve become lame.  And I’m apparently not afraid to admit it.

  • Thanks to a weekend at tennis camp, I’ve fallen head-over-heels in love with the game again (despite still being sore).  I very happily made a a new friend and tennis buddy in my group, and my husband and I are taking the plunge with a racquet club membership.  US Open-bound I’m not (as a player, anyway), but re-committing to a sport feels so good.
  • Olivia Wilde is amazing.  Her advice for turning 30 rises her to spirit animal status, in my book.
  • I did an interview with the newly relaunched The Style Line about my travel essentials and packing habits.  It was fun to have the tables turned on me, and I included some tips that I haven’t shared before.  Go check it out!
  • BaubleBar is having one hell of a party on its website.  To celebrate the birthdays of their founders, you whack” the pinata to score discounts (and even a $1000 prize!).  I scored a 15% discount and will be using it for this delicate ring and this silver lariat.  Bonus – the discounts also apply to personalized pieces (first time ever).  Get busy shopping or get busy dying.
  • I had planned to save this book for my August Hit List, but I couldn’t wait.  I haven’t been able to put down Do Cool Sh*t (thankfully it’s a quick read), and couldn’t endorse this book more highly.  If you’re looking to get off the ho-hum-job train and create a life you love, this book is a must read.  Its author, Miki Agrawal, is also up there in she-is-my-spirit-animal status.  Next to Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone, naturally.
  • Coffitivity, my favorite white-noise sounds, just launched their iPhone app.  The new app allows you to combine the ambient sounds with your iTunes library – which is great for those who use iTunes.  Here’s hoping a Spotify integration isn’t too far off.  The app is still worth it, and I’m glad I have my preferred white noise for my upcoming travel the first two weeks of September.  It certainly beats the sounds of screaming babies and egomaniacal businessmen.
  • The September issues are here!  And while circulation may be down, I’ve happily delved into the months’ Lucky, Vogue, and Vanity Fair with gusto – and the publications delivered.  So.  Good.  What September issues did you love?  COMMENT below and let me know!
