New York City Guide

I feel immensely lucky to live in New York.  I spent my childhood moving every three to four years, and expected the trend to continue throughout adulthood.

I’m coming up on 3 years in New York City in a few months, and the only desire I have is to move to a bigger apartment in a different neighborhood.  And firmly staying on the island of Manhattan.

Every New Yorker has their favorite places – their go-to restaurants, their favorite workout studios, and their tried-and-true weekend destinations.  I’m often asked by many readers these questions, and have been tinkering with a comprehensive city guide for a while now.  I wanted to create one that would be easily accessed by my readers, and was updated automatically.  Two aspects that are significantly more advanced than my very basic HTML skills.

And then I was introduced to Citymaps – an app that combines the functionality of Google Maps, the detailed reviews of Yelp, and the social networking of Facebook and Foursquare.  In short, the newest app to join my iPhone’s “Essentials” folder.

My New York City Favorites map (seen below) can be accessed below or through the Citymaps app.  I’ll be updating it regularly, so be sure to follow me (and this map!) if you’ll be in the city soon.

Don’t feel like playing with the map just yet?  Here are a handful of my tried-and-true places in the city:

DAVIDsTEA – the employees are always happy and the tea is always superb.  My only complaint is a lack of comfortable chairs – if they had those, I’d never leave.

DreamDry - no better place in the city to enjoy a blowout.  I love the Oribe products, the iPad filled with current magazines, and a glass of champagne to accompany getting my hair ‘did.

Om Factory – my mother-in-law got me hooked on aerial yoga, and Om Factory is my favorite studio for it.  Bonus – it’s in our neighborhood!

Anejo – if you follow me on Instagram or Twitter, you’re well aware of my obsession with this Mexican restaurant.  But I’d be here often – the margaritas and tacos are just that good.

American Museum of Natural History – my husband and I love this palace of geekdom so much, we spent Valentine’s Day here (they had an incredible evening of cocktails and champagne, appetizers and dessert, and a planetarium show).  Our favorites are the space exhibits, the dinosaur rooms, and the aforementioned planetarium.
