This Week

This Week 70

I kind of love this time of the year.

It’s early enough where resolutions haven’t flown completely out of the window. The chilly weather makes curling up at home with a book even more special. Sweatpants are completely acceptable attire (a good thing too, since they still fit).

Also, the tourists have all but left New York, which makes wandering around the city a pleasure. A pleasure that requires some serious outerwear game, but wonderful all the same.

It’s another one of those just-right weeks – a few meetings, a lot of solo work time, and a handful of plans. I had the wonderful opportunity of interviewing Jules Zecchino (THE guy behind some of Esteé Lauder and Elizabeth Arden’s cult classics) for an upcoming post. I also grabbed breakfast with my fellow mama-to-be Katherine, who has made the whole pregnancy and impending motherhood process a lot less scary.

Even childbirth doesn’t seem that scary over lemon ricotta pancakes. Famous last words…

Other than dinner with friends this weekend, we have zero plans. I’m relishing in these last few lazy weekends – reading and breakfast in bed, spending all day in pajamas, putting a dent in my digital bookshelf. I also spend an inordinate amount of time just standing in the nursery and taking it all in. Fellow moms and moms-to-be – please tell me this is normal.

Enough of my blabbing. Let’s move on to the important things, shall we?

  • It’s easy to focus on all the things we want to change in the new year. Too often, we forget to take stock in the things going well. Raluca shared her 5 things she’s not going to change in 2015, and I think it’s a list we all need to make to complement our resolutions.
  • Is there a well-calculated strategy behind Taylor Swift’s BFFs? I won’t lie – I see some strong parallels between Taylor’s strategy and that of many bloggers with large Instagram followings…
  • Modelfit has been getting a ton of buzz, especially during the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Try out the workouts at home, thanks to Into The Gloss and Vogue. Prefer to sweat in person? Check out FitBallet (and their newly launched classes in NYC. They’re also on ClassPass).
  • The reality of quitting full-time work to be a stay-at-home dad.
  • Grace’s latest Beauty Buys is filled with outstanding recommendations for harsh winter weather. My favorites? The Tata Harper overnight mask (worth every penny, by the way) and Bite Beauty lip mask. She also just relaunched her website as The Stripe, and it’s outstanding. Brava, Grace!
  • If you’re in the midst of a clothing purge, bookmark this guide to tailoring for those pieces you love, but don’t exactly fit.

Have a wonderful week, everyone!
