A Day In The Life

I’m participating in Refinery29’s Next Big Style Blogger’s contest, and would LOVE your vote!  Vote here – I appreciate it!

I’m a huge fan of “day in the life” articles and blog posts.  I wanted to share with you one of my more frantic days from last week.  It started in NYC, ended in Chicago, and was chock full of conference calls, car rides, flights, and exhaustion.  And I wouldn’t change it for anything.

6:30 am – wake up, chow down some cereal, and head to the gym.  Monday mornings always start off with a torture training session with my trainer – he’s tough, but kicking off the week with a session keeps me accountable for the rest of the week.  Most of the time, anyway.

8:00 am – Time for a well deserved, proper breakfast.  Since I’m leaving for a week, I forage my fridge and throw all fresh foods in my omelette and my smoothie.  I prepare and inhale breakfast as I participate in two calls.

9:30 am – I quickly shower and dress, and throw the last few items in my suitcase and carry-on bag.  I also finalize my to-do list – I’m never without my trusty notebook, complete with my e-mails to write/respond and tasks to complete.

11:00 am – Time to head to the airport.  I check in via the United app on my phone, so I head straight through security and to the United Club.  Am obviously hungry again, so take advantage of the complimentary snacks.  I board the quick flight to Chicago – with firm intentions of reading the day’s NYTimes, I end up chatting to my seat neighbor about sports, politics, and work in general.

3:30 pm – land in Chicago, and head straight outside for my boss to pick me up.  We swing over  to the international terminal to pick up another colleague and head straight to our home for the night – the Hyatt Regency in Schaumburg.

5:30 pm – dinner is planned with one of the people we’re meeting with the next day, so I freshen up and change from my travel duds into a simple black dress and nude heels.  A few minutes with my hair straightener and Bare Minerals makeup, and I’m ready for dinner.

9:30 pm – return to the room, check e-mails and finish some work, eat chocolates while watching my weeknight husband (Jon Stewart), and bed! Busy day tomorrow – internal meetings, external meetings, and traveling to Ohio.

Thankfully, this week is not nearly as frantic as last’s – but I’m currently in Philadelphia for technical meetings with a vendor.  Back to New York on Wednesday, and off to West Virginia this weekend to visit family!  I’m eagerly looking forward to a nice 10-day stretch when I don’t board a flight.
