Reading List

One of the (many) things I loved about our honeymoon was the chance to catch up on the books accumulating on my Kindle for months.  While I’m spending this snow day catching up on work instead of curling up with more books, I’d like to share some of my recent favorites that would be a perfect sun/snow day read:

Stieg Larsson’s trilogy: I know understand why I see someone carrying one of these books on every flight I’ve boarded in the last year.  The Swedish novels are dark, twisted, slightly disturbing, but completely addictive.  Carol said she couldn’t put them down her entire honeymoon, and I echo that statement.  I highly recommend picking them up if you haven’t read them yet.

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks: An admitted science nerd, I first purchased this book for its scientific content – the origin of the HeLa cancer cell line (widely used in drug development reserach).  What kept me reading was the story of the woman who “birthed” these cells.  A perfect merger of science and memoir, I could not put this down during our absurdly long journey (1 boat + 5 flights) home.

Sexy Women Eat: Confession – I am a sucker for self-help books, particularly within the eating category.  I think it’s the guilt stemming from my Taco Bell addiction that drives me to read these books.  I loved this quick and dirty guide on how to refine your love for eating, sneaking in exercise during a busy day, and some other ridiculously helpful tips.  I also may have developed a girl crush on the author, Divya Gugnani.  If eating better/living healthfully is one of your New Year’s resolutions, definitely pick up this read.

What’s on your winter reading list?  How are you spending this snow day?  I’ll be noshing on homemade chocolate peanut butter cups (bliss!), continuing to delve through my inbox, and hopefully picking up my Kindle tonight to continue reading Freedom.
