This Week

Hey hey! How’s everyone week going so far?

Mine started with a much-needed closet organization, which felt so good.    My much-beloved nephew is visiting me in the city this week!  A fellow foodie, I can’t wait to take him to my favorite haunts – Eataly, Chelsea Piers, and the list he’s no doubt put together (I’m told it’s extensive).  We have zero plans this weekend, which I’m very happy about (here’s hoping it stays that way).  Other things making my week are…

  • On Monday, my lovely friend Julia joined me for a “ladies-who-lunch” lunch at The Modern, thanks to an about-to-expire OpenTable certificate.  We talked business, blogging, and general girly nonsense while dining on the most beautiful (and tasty!) food I’ve ever tasted.  She ‘grammed the food and decor – I ‘grammed the spork.  (Also, can we make ‘gram happen?  Or is it as bad as “fetch”? You can be honest.)
  • I’ll be talking about my (overdue) opinion on Lean In, but I found this Vogue feature on Marissa Mayer most enlightening…and empathetic.  Like Mayer, I never realized I was the only woman (and a young, Indian woman at that) in a room full of older men in my career.  And I praise (and encourage!) women to think less about their own gender and focus more on getting the job done.  It saves you more time, energy, and mental sanity.  More to come on this.
  • Cue the tissues and “awwwww!” – this video of a baby panda meeting his mother for the first time makes my ovaries hurt.  (For more baby animal cuteness, click this way).
  • Best. Tumblr. Ever.
  • The most extraordinary force behind The Average Girls Guide shared her heartbreakingly personal story with her local paper.  Give it a read.  And bring tissues.
  • Ever wonder what it takes to plan the president’s (that’s the leader of the free world) travel?  This feature on the White House travel director pulls the curtain behind that fascinating career.  And it’s as close to getting an ERW feature of POTUS as I’ll ever get…
  • I’m rooting for Lindsay Lohan in this (and hopefully final) comeback.  For those without cable (*raises hand*), I’ve rounded up her Oprah interview and guest-hosting gig on Chelsea Lately.  Random fact – we share the same birthday, July 2.
