This Week

I met up with my friend Aaron last week to talk entrepreneurship and collaborations (he’s the co-founder of Citymaps).  He casually mentioned that this series was his favorite from my blog – which elicited a mental squeal-fist pump from me.

I always get a thrill when strangers or acquaintances mention my blog – and to you all, I say “THANK YOU!”   When I asked him why, he stated that we don’t celebrate the little moments and victories in life enough – and that these posts were a nice reminder to do so.

Let’s hear it for the little victories.  This week was an especially exciting one.  Work has been amazing lately, and I’m jetting to Frankfurt on Sunday for the busiest week of my year.  Rather than feeling overwhelmed, I’m pumped for a great week.

Last night was incredibly fun – Julia and I hit up the Sperry Topsiders‘ preview, and took in the brand’s new shoe styles.  I was impressed by the wide diversity of styles – not just boat shoes, folks.  The ombre options were my absolute favorites.  I jetted downtown to meet up with Hallie and Usha for a cocktail event hosted by FOOD & WINE magazine.  We sipped cocktails, nibbled on macarons, and spotted Tom Colicchio (eek!) as we were walking out.  I’m headed to a conference held by Ladies Home Journal today, and have some fun meetings scheduled for the rest of the week.

Here are some of my favorite links/reads from this week:

  • I’m evangelical about my love for MM LaFleur.  In addition to truly amazing dresses (I purchased 3 more for my upcoming trip), I love how they’ve built their brand – specifically their excellent blog.  This post on career advice for young women (linking to this NYTimes article) is worth a read.
  • Today is the last day of Shopbop’s F&F sale!  You can snap up my favorite travel items (FLIGHT 001’s suitcase, shoe bags, and gym bag are particular favorites) and my beloved Rag & Bone black denim leggings (the greatest travel pants, ever).  Use code INTHEFAMILY25 to get 25% off your entire order.  (You can also find my favorite travel items here).
  • I was incredibly inspired by this feature of Aja Brown, the young mayor of Compton.  While she shares some similarities with New Jersey’s newest senator (engaged with constituents on social media, a vision for transforming the city), she has her own style and ambition.
  • I need to start doing these 10 things to make me happier – starting with working out.  Which one are you going to start with?
  • Jon Stewart speechless?  By a teenage girl, no less.  Watch this immediately.
  • If you haven’t participated in an activity bringing awareness to breast cancer, I recommend checking out the Tigerlily Foundation (I’m honored to serve on its board of directors). The organization assists young breast cancer patients with support during and after treatment.  Consider donating or attending an upcoming event, if you happen to be based in the Washington DC area!

Talk to me – what are some of your little victories?  COMMENT below and let me know!
