This Week

This Week 81

Life is pretty damn wonderful right now.

Rho lets us watch Game Of Thrones on Sunday nights (while he snoozes on my chest) and is sleeping well at night. Which is everything I could ask for. Fingers crossed he keeps this up! Rho is also quite the ladies’ man, having visits with Lisa, Merritt, Julie, and Olivia this week.

Work has been nearly as amazing. I’ve been having a number of “I’m not worthy” moments, representing Bridge2Act at the Media for Social Impact Summit last week and the Wired Business Conference next week. Having to remind myself that I AM worthy of these opportunities and have a lot to contribute has been a #firstworldproblem for sure, but one that’s been a bit of a challenge nonetheless. Anyone else struggle with this? How do you get over it?

We have an exciting three day stretch at the end of the week – my father’s birthday on the 9th, my first Mother’s Day on the 10th, and Rho’s 2 month birthday on the 11th!

Time, please slow down.

  • How delicious does Juley’s updated shrimp + grits look? *drools*
  • “My biggest failure moment happens at the end of each day. It’s everything that I couldn’t tick off on my “to-do” list. Those failures motivate me to try and be better tomorrow.” – Aliza Licht, aka @dknyprgirl. Lots of great career insight in this feature.
  • Paying attention in a distractive world (h/t to Felicia for sharing this)
  • These ‘fall asleep fast‘ tips actually work. Where was this post 7 weeks ago??
  • I just started Some Girls thanks to Alyssa, and I can’t put it down. While I find the writing style choppy and a bit jarring, the addictive story more than makes up for it.
  • Last week was a heartbreaking one in the world of current events. While disasters like the one in Nepal are unavoidable, the situation in Baltimore is not. This piece on Salon should be required reading for everyone. Fostering a sense of empathy is a crucial first step in fighting race-based police violence.
