Safety First

My family has the propensity to forward e-mails.  Usually, it’s a funny picture, a hotly liberal editorial, or a gross joke.  I quickly read them, laugh or grimace, and file it away.

Yesterday, however, my cousin sent one on safety and protecting against thieves that grabbed my attention – and felt it was only fitting for you all.

I’m sharing each of the theft-related stories below, with tips on protecting yourselves from 21st century thieves.

Tell me – how do you protect yourself from the modern day thief?  I think we can all use the most advice we can get!

talk about terrifying! These are things I have never really thought of, aside from the naming of personal contacts in my phone. Great read, Hitha. Thanks!

These are really good tips! I wouldn’t have thought about the car registration until I read this post. Thanks for sharing!

Smart! I hadn’t really thought of some of these, but very common sense. I really encourage people to have a password on their phones since there’s so much info to be gleaned there, too. My husband and I also have a “code word” to say in strange situations – mostly meaning that you can’t talk on the phone since someone else is around or something – that could probably work for the texting issue.

The password is a MUST! I can’t believe people still don’t put them on all their devices.

Great tip about the code word! Will be chatting with my husband to determine ours tonight.

Thanks for these tips…especially the long-term parking one. I never thought of that one before. Another really basic but important tip I always follow is NEVER leave anything in the car. Not even earplugs, CD covers, or loose change. I don’t ever want to give a thief a reason to enter the car in the first place.
