Giveaway – Lisa Bloom’s Think

I’ve raved about this book already, and have been forcing the women in my life to read it. If you haven’t picked up a copy yet, it’s your lucky day! Lisa and her publisher generously gave me three books to give away. To enter, leave a comment on an issue that concerns you, and how you plan to get involved. To kick it off, here is my response:

Sexual slavery is a major issue worldwide, particularly in my home of India. Girls as young as 7 are kidnapped, forced into having sex multiple times a day, are malnourished and housed in appalling conditions. This appalling issue has enslaved more people than the African slave trade centuries ago. It’s heartbreaking and NEEDS to stop. I’ve participated in events held by the wonderful Somaly Mam Foundation, which works to rescue and rehabilitate former slaves. (Somaly’s brave memoir is a must read, if you want to learn more about this issue)

In addition to getting more involved with the organization, I’m rallying my close girlfriends and hosting a monthly potluck to discuss a certain book or issue. The money we save by not dining out will be donated to an organization agreed on by the group. I encourage all of you to host similar events in your circles and cities – starting the dialogue is the first step in helping overcome many of the issues that plague our world.

Leave your comments below, and I will select the winners by Friday, September 9th!
