24 Hours In…San Diego

I’m in San Diego this week for a conference. When I’m not networking or sitting in session, I’m taking advantage of the sunshine and and exploring this beautiful city. I’ve been lucky to visit this city a number of times, and I fall a little more in love with it each time I come.

Stay: I love staying on the water, and at major hotel chains so I rack up my points.  Both the Marriott and the Hyatt are steps away from the boardwalk and Seaport Village, boast gorgeous water and city views, and have fabulous restaurants inside the hotel.  The customer service is phenomenal at both locations.  A few blocks away is the fabulous Gas Lamp district, full of restaurants and bars.  You can rent beach cruisers from the Hyatt to explore the city further.

See: Seaport Village is a charming collection of boutiques and restaurants that neighbors the boardwalk.  Stroll along the boardwalk at sunset, and head into one of the restaurants for a fresh seafood dinner.  The USS Midway is worth a visit – the guides are phenomenal, and the vessel holds a lot of history.  The San Diego Zoo is a must-see – especially the snake house (though it gave me nightmares for a month after I visited it).

Play: I’ve actually never made it to the beach in San Diego, but have heard that Pacific Beach is the place to be.  La Jolla also boasts a stunning coastline.  At night, the Gas Lamp District is the place to be, and I highly recommend Las Hadas (I recommend the tacos and mango mojitos).  Altitude at the Marriott Gaslamp and Top of the Hyatt offer great drinks and amazing views of San Diego; it’s the perfect bar to relax with a cocktail and catch up with a friend.

Taste: Sushi is a must-eat here in San Diego – the fish is so fresh, and sushi restaurants are aplenty.  Famed sushi restaurant Nobu has a location here, though I lazily stayed at my hotel and ordered room service from Sally’s to accompany Monday night TV.  If you’re here on a fall Sunday, Redfield’s is the perfect place to catch the football games – and their chili cheese fries are excellent.
